Before talking about the upcoming Cirques Michael Jackson The Immortal in Las Vegas, we should take time to remember the man who this tour is about.
He is considered by many to be the greatest performer of all time. After starting off as a member of the Jackson 5 alongside his brothers, he launched a solo career that made him extremely wealthy and brought him millions and millions of fans.
His album Thriller is the highest selling album ever. He has a few Guinness World Records, 13 Grammy Awards, 26 American Music Awards and 13 Number One singles. Those are just a few of his many awards in addition to having sold at least 800 million records worldwide.
He was also a great philanthropist, having donated and raised hundreds of millions of dollars for charities. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Dance Hall of Fame. He has influenced many different artists and left an unforgettable mark on dance, fashion, and music.
He has dealt with personal problems, most notably the accusations of child sexual abuse. The first case was settled without charges being brought against him. A decade later, charges resurfaced again and he was eventually acquitted.
While getting ready for his next big tour, he went into cardiac arrest and died. It has been estimated that over a billion people watched his funeral on television.
In November 2010, Cirque du Soleil announced that it would begin “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour.” The shows focus on a combination of his musical ideas and choreography with the Cirque’s style of dance and aerial displays. The show will tour North America for about two years before going to Europe. There is expected to be an emphasis on his Inspirational Giving Tree. The Giving Tree combines his love of music, dance, fairy tales, and beauty.
Besides the show, the Cirque’s will open a lounge in his honor and a gift shop. There has also been some talk of an album being released.
